Camp Easton

Merit Badges
Scouts should know in advance what merit badges they wish to pursue, what they must do prior to camp, and should have some idea of the time required to complete the work. Scouts should become familiar with the requirements of each merit badge they want to work on by reading the merit badge pamphlet prior to camp.

Camp Easton will mail a merit badge schedule to each troop prior to the camp start date.   One hour merit badge classes begin at 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm. There are many more classes offered in the morning sessions.

Merit badges related to the out of doors are available in camp. Those merit badges are described in the Leader Guide Book (and included in this information.) Please read the brief description of each so that Scouts can be guided to those merit badges they have the best chance of completing. The descriptions also mention requirements that should be completed prior to camp.  Merit badge pamphlets are sold in the trading post. However, Scouts will be better prepared if they get pamphlets early enough to pass the prerequisites and study up on the rest.  (Troop 411 has an extensive library and will make a Merit Badge pamphlet shopping trip in mid July. Books will be delivered at least one week before camp.  Orders must be submitted by the July 9th PreCamp Dessert Potluck.)

Scouts are encouraged to work on one to three merit badges in a week, depending on their interests, ability, experience, dedication, and enthusiasm.  Information about Easton merit badges can be found at  http://www.doubleknot.com/openrosters/DocDownload.asp?id=28720    (For more information about particular merit badges, you can check “Mr. D's Merit Badge Review” or www.usscouts.org. We will help the newer scouts to choose wisely, but parents should work with their son to make good choices.)

Note: Troop 411 boys usually sign up for three or four merit badge classes. Environmental Science takes a lot of time; Art takes very little. It isn’t a contest to complete the most merit badges, but an opportunity to learn new skills & new information and to spend time in the out-of-doors. Some of the merit badges may require additional work to complete all of the requirements.  We will help boys to make good selections.

Eagle Quest
New Scouts (Frogs) are strongly encouraged to spend three hours each day in the Eagle Quest program working on advancement skills. This program, specifically designed for the new Scout, emphasizes the learning of skills and scoutcraft required for rank advancement to Tenderfoot, Second Class, or First Class. In addition to Eagle Quest, the Scout will still be able to take one or two easy Merit Badge classes at other times during the day.
